A HAPPY ACCIDENT

Friday lunchtime all dressed up with nowhere to go.

There had been confusion over the time of our reservation at a restaurant locally so we decided to try Burley Manor in the beautiful village of Burley in the New Forest instead. So glad we did. The building itself is very impressive and as we made our way towards the main door we could see the resident herd of deer browsing in the field opposite.

The atmosphere is that of a boutique hotel instantly calming and welcoming at the same time. If i didn't live quite so close I would love the opportunity to stay here maybe it could be an anniversary treat next year?

Luckily for us as a late booking the hotel wasn't too busy and the staff welcomed us and immediately and took us through to the lovely bright conservatory for our lunch.

Seated by the window the view outside was perfect we quickly settled down to make our food choices.

The seasonal lunch set menu gave us plenty to choose from including lots of local produce not least the fresh Asparagus from Sopley Farm, it was served wrapped in salty parma ham and dressed with sun blushed tomato and buffalo mozzarella.

My husband chose the ox cheek croquettes beautifully presented with a celeriac remoulade. I had a little taste and can confirm it was a great little dish and something a little unusual.

Mains looked just as attractive on the plate as the starters and consisted of roasted cod for him and basil and feta stuffed chicken for me. Dessert was a rare sweet treat for me as I'm usually full by then but I'm afraid I couldn't resist the frangipane and raspberry tart with a little swap for the non dairy sorbet.

All in all we are so glad we ventured out to The Burley Manor as not only was it excellent value for money the meal was delicious. We will definitely be going back and taking our family with us.

There are several other areas where you can eat at Burley Manor including the Butlers Pantry that offers a stunning 7 beautiful styles of cooking leaving the only problem - what to choose. The garden area is perfect for afternoon tea although the weather wasn't quite warm enough when we were there.

It really is a lovely place set in the beautiful New Forest, I recommend you try it.
