Last Friday I was lucky to represent Dorset Foodie Family when we were invited to Level 8 SkyBar to sample their new Spring cocktail menu.
Located in the Bournemouth Hilton Hotel and as you would expect Level 8 SkyBar is on the eighth floor it is also the highest bar in the South West and only a five minute walk from the beach.
As a slightly older than the norm blogger its been a while since I have had the opportunity to go out drinking cocktails on a Friday night, we all thought the layout of bar stools, high tables, booths, and quirky chairs worked well and created a sophisticated atmosphere for a cocktail bar.
The staff were very welcoming and the mixologists certainly know their stuff, its quite a time consuming thing to do especially when you consider things such as the caramelisation of the marshmallows with a blow torch and decorations including caramel, apple, mango, basil, etc.
On arrival the bar was fairly empty but within the space of the next hour it became very busy, bear this in mind if you are ordering a large round of drinks, although the open bar gives you an opportunity to watch the staff at work whilst you wait.
The new menu incorporates some unusual versions of the usual spirits such as Rhubarb Gin and Bulliet Rye and some more old fashioned drinks such as Campari and Sherry also making an appearance. My favourite cocktail of the whole evening was the Softcore Porn although embarrassing to order it really was delicious, and one I will definitely order next time I am there.
If cocktails are not really your thing the SkyBar also serves a really lovely afternoon tea that I can recommend, but booking is essential.
